On February 8, 2021, the League of Women Voters of Texas conducted and recorded a webinar for members in preparation for the 87th session of the Texas Legislature.
One of the priority issues featured in this presentation concerns the redistricting process that will be undertaken by the Texas Legislature in a special session once the results of the 2020 Census are complete. Speakers in this portion of the presentation are Stephanie Swanson, the LWV-TX issue chair for Redistricting, and Michael Chihpoh Li of the Brennan Center for Justice.
This presentation contains information about Texas’s changing demographics, background information about changes to the Voting Rights Act, a discussion on gerrymandering, information about possible federal reforms, and an emphasis on the importance of community testimony.
