This is the date on which the two major political parties (Republican and Democratic) hold elections to choose the candidates who will appear on the ballot in the November General Election.  Any registered Texas voter may vote in either party’s Primary Election.  You do not have to register in advance with one party or the other.  You may not vote in both parties’ Primary Elections.  For more information about Primaries, visit our FAQ for Primaries

Minor Parties: The Texas Libertarian Party state convention will be held April 12-14; the Texas Green Party state convention date has not yet been published. You may either vote in a major party Primary Election or participate in a minor party's convention, but you may not do both in the same year.
