Key Dates in December 2024

In Texas, county voter registrars(at the County Elections Department) may appoint a person to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR). To become a VDR, you must pass a test, after which you can officially register people to vote using a special form that must be returned to the county Elections Department. The advantages for voters in registering with a VDR are that they may receive assistance with completing their registration, they receive a receipt proving that they are registered, and their registration becomes effective almost immediately.
VDRs serve from their appointment until December 31st of even-numbered years. If you are currently a VDR, your term will expire at the end of 2024 and you will need to test again to begin another term as a VDR. VDRs may only register voters who live in a county in which the VDR holds a valid certification. It is very easy to get certified in multiple counties.

After you become a VDR for 2025-2026, please let us know at voterreg@lwvrichardson.org so we can include you to participate in future voter registrations drives.
