Active Collaboration and Coordination
Improves Voter Registration

The League of Women Voters of Richardson (LWVR) has had a record year collaborating with our community to provide voter registration in a variety of places to reach as many unregistered voters as possible. From high schools and college campuses to senior assisted and independent living communities, we have connected people to the voting process. Our volunteers have provided registration opportunities and educated people at several city festivals, local markets and fairs, houses of worship, concerts, PTA functions, neighborhood functions and even a scouting event. Our volunteers have been out in the community this year, more than ever in our LWVR history.

All these volunteer efforts have been to promote better access to voting by registering
voters and helping registered voters to verify their registrations. Through coordination and
collaboration with our city, school district, and local agencies and communities, we have
been able to educate and provide valuable information, including our Voters Guides. We
even sponsored an Instagram contest resulting in a grand prize winner and an
impressive video showing on our Instagram page.

None of this would have been possible without the time and energy of our many
volunteers.

Big thanks to those who gave of their time in this most important election cycle. And to
all those who helped in the effort along the way.

Obituary:  Carol Wilson

Carol Wilson, Ph.D. and former League of Women Voters of Richardson President, passed away on September 29 in Portland, Oregon after a long illness. Carol was a biochemist and researcher at University Texas Southwestern Medical Center when she lived in Richardson. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the prestigious honor society.
Dr. Wilson was active in our Richardson community - a strong supporter of responsible land use and expansion of arts and economic development. Alongside her good friend Nancy Wilson, the Carol/Nancy duo studied land in the city of Richardson and advocated for highest and best practices. Carol expanded her interest in land use statewide by chairing the Land Use Committee on the League of Women Voters of Texas Board. Her local advocacy played a significant role in the protection of park land and trails in the City of Richardson and propelled her to the Richardson's City Plan Commission and then to serving on the Richardson City Council. She said, “Being involved in City Government is the most fun you can have in Richardson with your clothes on!”

As supporters of the arts, Carol and her husband, Art, were substantial contributors to the building of Richardson’s Eisemann Center for Performing Arts.  The Broadcast Center is named after them.

Carol is survived by her daughter Heather Wilson Moore, son-in-law Michael, and two granddaughters, Isabelle and Caroline Moore. Carol was preceded in death by husband, Arthur M, and son Dirk.
