Local Election on May 4, 2024 and
Primary Runoff Elections on May 28, 2024

For complete election information, visit our website or go to www.VOTE411.org.

May 4 Local Election - This is the date on which city, school district, and county governmental bodies hold elections.  The races that will be on your ballot depend on where you live. Elections in which only one candidate filed to run for office have been canceled and will not appear on the ballot. Elections that have been canceled include the Richardson Independent School District Board of Trustees and the Collin County Appraisal District Board.

Richardson residents who live in Collin County will not have any contested races on their ballots in this election.

Dallas County residents who live in the City of Richardson or the Richardson ISD will have two contested races on their ballots:
  • Dallas Central Appraisal District Board of Directors, Place 1
  • Dallas College Trustee, District 1.
In addition, there will be other ballot items for Richardson ISD voters who live within the cities of Dallas or Garland:
  • City of Dallas bond election (Propositions A-J)
  • City of Garland charter amendments (Propositions A-Q).
The last day of early voting for the May 4 election was April 30.  On May 4, Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

May 28 Primary Runoff Election -- This is the date when the Democratic and Republican parties will finish choosing the candidates who will represent them on the November General Election ballot.  The top two vote-getters from each party who were in March Primary races where no candidate received more than 50% of the vote will run against each other in the Primary Runoff on this date.

If you voted in the March Primary Election (Republican or Democratic), you may vote in the same party's Runoff Election.  If you did not vote in the March Primary Election, you may vote in either party's Runoff Election.

There will be no races on the Runoff Election ballot for the Democratic Party in Collin County for Richardson residents.  There will be a few contested races on the Runoff Election ballot for the Republican Party in Collin County. There will also be a few contested races on Runoff Election ballots for voters in Dallas County in both the Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff Elections

We will have more information on our website and on VOTE411.org closer to the election. Early voting for the May 28 Primary Runoff Election begins on May 20 and ends on May 24.

The League of Women Voters of Richardson
is working with other organizations
to educate and empower voters

This year LWVR has teamed up with Vote Riders to distribute their information about overcoming barriers to voting at our registration events.  They have provided us with handy wallet-sized information cards to give out especially to those having challenges with updating their ID.  These cards are available in English and Spanish.

VoteRiders is a non-partisan, non-profit organization with a mission to ensure that all citizens can exercise their freedom to vote. VoteRiders informs citizens how to know what ID is needed and  helps them to secure their voter ID, if necessary.  VoteRiders works to inspire and support local volunteers, communities, and organizations like ours to sustain voter ID education and assistance efforts.

Their website (VoteRiders.org) and their digital tools offer up-to-date information in English and Spanish about voter ID laws for both in-person and ballot by mail voting in all 50 states and DC.

VoteRiders works directly with voters, both virtually and in-person, to ensure they have the ID they need to cast a ballot that counts. They provide personalized assistance for voters, including:
  • Covering the cost of required documents (like birth certificates or Social Security cards) and ID
  • Arranging and paying for transportation to their local ID-issuing office
  • Answering questions about their state’s voter ID laws
  • Providing pro bono legal assistance with certain document issues
LWV Richardson is excited to collaborate with VoteRiders to educate and empower voters.

CHIP  and Children's Medicaid

CHIP and Children’s Medicaid have been well received by Texas families and these programs help to ensure that our children have adequate preventative care in addition to coverage for more complex medical care.  It is much more cost effective to provide immunizations, check-ups, and early intervention in childhood illnesses than to wait for a problem to develop into an emergency.  Texas leads the nation (11% versus 5% for USA) in uninsured children.

LWV-Richardson is a long-time supporter of these programs.  Members can help with an application help session at
St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church
1220 W. Belt Line Road
Richardson 75080
from 9 to noon on May 11, 2024.

Spanish-speaking experts will be available to assist.

Families who do not have coverage through their employment such as seasonal workers, employees who work part-time, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a fixed income, those who are currently unemployed, and teenagers who are “on their own” are some of our neighbors who might have eligible children.  Please invite anyone you think may be interested to be with us on May 11.
