Letter to the Editor in DMN

President Ellen Steger composed a Letter to the Editor about some candidates not participating in LWVRichardson forums.  The board approved the letter before it was sent to local news agencies.  One member of the board was excluded from the process as she has worked on a candidate's political campaign for the November Election.

The letter appeared in the Dallas Morning News on Saturday, October 15.

No candidates on ballot in Judicial District 301

Many of you will have the Judicial District 301 on your ballot.  Nobody filed to be on the ballot.  There are 3 official write-in candidates for District Judge of the 301st Judicial District.  They are:
  • Mary Brown, Democrat
  • Earl Jackson, Independent
  • Michelle McKinney, Independent
Each polling booth (early voting and election day) will have a list posted in the booth listing candidates who have officially registered as write-in candidates.

Seven different races have people who have officially registered to be write-in candidates.

You may write in any name, but your vote will only count if you vote for a candidate who has registered to be an official write-in candidate.

To write in a candidate's name:
  • Clicking on "Write In" should bring up a keyboard.
  • Type in the name of the candidate you want to vote for.
  • If the name is not spelled correctly, but it is obvious which candidate you wanted to vote for, your ballot will count.
  • Go back to the main screen.  Make sure you see the candidate's name before you print your ballot.
If you have any questions, ask for help from an election clerk or judge.

Ballot by Mail

The County Elections Department must receive your Application for Ballot By Mail (ABBM) by October 28.

Click here for instructions for submitting an ABBM.   You must sign a hard-copy of the application.  It cannot be submitted online.

As of Friday, October 14, 2022, 463 Applications for Ballot By Mail had been rejected by Dallas County.  The County Election Departments do try to contact you to "cure" an invalid ABBM.
  • 268 of the rejected ABBMs were missing the voter's ID.  You must put the ID number (driver's license number or last 4 of your social security number) that the elections department has on file for you.  This would be the number that you provided when you registered to vote.  Put both ID numbers on your ABBM!
  • 116 of the rejected ABBMs gave an in-county address to receive the ballot.  If you are claiming that you will be absent from the county for every early voting day and also election day (one of the reasons you can give to request a Ballot By Mail), then the county elections department MUST send you the ballot to an out-of-the-county address.
  • 50 of the rejected ABBMs gave an incorrect ID number.
  • 20 of the regected ABBMS were not signed.  Sign your ABBM!  And when you sign the actual ballot, use the same signature that you used on the ballot application (ABBM).
