All registered voters in Texas may vote in the Primary Elections.

Major Political Parties in Texas:
In Texas, the major political parties hold Primary Elections to determine their candidates.  The Texas Primary Elections will be held March 3, 2026. Candidates who wish to represent one of the major parties in races that will appear on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot must first win that party’s Primary Election.

See LWVRichardson's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for answers to some frequently asked questions regarding the Primary Election.

In Texas, registered voters may vote in either major political party’s Primary Election.  You do not have to register in advance with the political party.  You may not vote in both political parties’ Primary Elections.

Minor Parties in Texas:
  • The Texas Libertarian Party state convention will be held April 10-12, 2026, in Abilene, TX.
  • The Texas Green Party holds a convention in every Texas county.  Watch their website for an announcement of a convention to be held in your county.
You may either vote in a major party Primary Election or participate in a minor party’s convention, but you may not do both in the same year.

* Go to the Texas Secretary of State's website for more information.
To see your sample ballot, go to your County Elections Department’s website:

  • View a personalized Voters Guide that will include only the candidates/issues that will be on your ballot.
    • For races involving candidates in a contested race, the candidates have been asked questions by LWV.  All candidates in the same race were asked the same questions.  The candidates themselves typed in any responses.  Some candidates may have chosen not to participate.
    • For elections involving issues (e.g., bonds, constitutional amendments, charter amendments), LWV has provided information on what people are saying in support of or in opposition to each issue.
  • Whether there are candidates or issues/bonds on your ballot, you may compare information side by side for each race that will be on your ballot.
