Why No Runoff Election?

In Texas, local political subdivisions (cities and school districts) decide whether candidates will be elected by a majority of the votes cast (over 50%) or by a plurality (the most votes, regardless of percentage).

Election to the Richardson City Council and the Richardson ISD Board of Trustees requires a majority vote, and one candidate in each race did receive a majority. If in any of those races NO candidate running had received over 50% of the vote, there would have been a runoff election between the two candidates who got the most votes.

Election to the Plano ISD Board of Trustees requires only a plurality, according to the PISD website. In Place 2 and in Place 6, no candidate received over 50% of the votes cast, so the candidates with the most votes cast for each place is the winner.
